Unendlichkeit

Infinity - what is the function of this idea, and what does it mean? There are very different concepts in various branches of science and the humanities. What is the relationship between infinity, immeasurability, beginninglessness and infiniteness, continuum, boundlessness, perfection and eternity? The contributors to this volume document joint explanatory achievements and expectations in regard to the concept of infinity in physics, mathematics as well as philosophy and theology. They study the nuances in the meaning of infinity in the various disciplines and provide a critical analysis of the definitions of this term in these disciplines. Their studies include articles on the meaning of this concept in metaphysics, anthropology, cosmological problems, set theory, intentionality, cognitive science, the sociological systems theory, and the Christian doctrine of creation and theology.
